Be Caring and Have Heart
Mā te ngākau aroha koe e ārahi
Let a loving heart guide your decisions.
This whakataukī is a gentle reminder that the choices we make should be grounded in kindness, empathy, and care for others. It encourages us to consider how our actions impact those around us and to act in ways that reflect respect and compassion.
At Geraldine Primary School, we support our tamariki to lead with kindness, inclusion, and manaakitanga in their everyday interactions. When we allow kindness to guide our decisions, we create a school environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and able to thrive.
Be an Achiever and Thrive
Pai tū, pai hinga
Through standing and falling, in time the work will be completed.
This whakataukī reflects the importance of perseverance and resilience. It encourages our tamariki to keep trying, even when learning feels challenging, and to understand that mistakes are a natural and valuable part of the learning journey.
At Geraldine Primary School, we support our students to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks, and take pride in their effort. Through determination and a positive mindset, our tamariki continue to grow, achieve, and thrive.
Be Respectful Together
He aroha atu, he aroha mai
Love given, love received
This whakataukī reminds us of the importance of reciprocity and mutual respect within our kura. When our tamariki show kindness, care, and respect towards others, it is reflected back to them, helping to create a positive and harmonious environment for everyone.
At Geraldine Primary School, we continue to encourage our students to lead with respect in their words and actions, building strong relationships and a sense of belonging across our school community.
Be Responsible to Strengthen Community
He waka eke noa
We are all in the same canoe
This whakataukī reminds us that we are all in this together, and that each of us has a role to play in supporting one another. When we take responsibility for our actions and contribute positively, we help create a strong and connected community where everyone can succeed.
At Geraldine Primary School, we encourage our tamariki to look out for one another, work together, and take pride in being part of a team. By supporting each other, we strengthen our kura and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Students who show our school values are rewarded with gotchas. These can be given out in the classroom, playground, on school trips by all members of staff. Once a student earns four of these they can post them into our school draw. Each fortnight, six students names are drawn out at school assembly, and they get to choose a prize. Students are also rewarded with a postcard and small reward each time they reach every 20 gotchas. When a student reaches 100 gotchas they can earn a wristband with our school values on it.
